Roses

Summer has returned to Oxford this weekend, thank goodness. And with all the rain, we've been having, when the sun comes out everything in the garden grows like mad. All our roses are out, pink, white, yellow, orange; patio, bush, climber. I never feel as though any attempt I've made to paint or draw roses have really worked. This year I'm having another go, using a very loose, watercolour style. Still not really right, but I think this approach could work if I keep at it.

Dave I beg to differ, these are gorgeous!
They have an abstract feel about them that would suit fabric printing very well, romantic and airy.
The gesture is so free and yet there is no doubt I am looking at a rose. They leave something to the viewers imagination, which I love and they are so different from other roses.
Really beautiful!

Wonderful roses! This loose style is nice in catching the essence of the shapes and colors.

I love the free-flowing colors here. The pieces make me feel all dreamy-like and I can almost smell them on a warm sunny day. I say almost smell them because between my gardenias and jasmine in bloom, it's quite fragrant around here!

These are absolutely beautiful, Dave. Why don't you have some greeting cards made up with these illustrations?
